Mindfulness is the psychological practice of focusing your attention and thoughts on the present moment and can be achieved through meditation and training.

With the pace and pressure of the technological age consuming more and more of our day, we can find ourselves time poor and lacking those important moments to sit, be still and care for our well-being.

As a result, the stresses of modern living can impair our memories,make it difficult for us to focus and be detrimental to our concentration levels. The art of mindfulness is quickly becoming recognised as a powerful antidote, helping people to manage the everyday stresses of life. Stress also has the potential to increase disease activity, which can filter out and affect our families, our friends and our work colleagues. While we can only change our own behaviour – and not that of anyone else – the change we make in our own lives through mindfulness has the potential to create ripples that have widespread impact.

Each one of us has a natural ability to practice mindfulness and the MBSR / MBCT (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction / Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) programme enables you to tap into this wisdom through an evidence based structure. The programme shows us how to live more fully and to experience each moment, easing anxiety and alleviating depressive thinking.

Jon Kabat Zinn, founder of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, describes mindfulness practice as an awareness that arises through purposefully paying attentionto the present moment, without judgement. Mindfulness allows us to acknowledge what is happening within our bodies, right here, right now.
