Mindfulness In
The Workplace
POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT
A positive work environment has a critical impact on how employees feel about both their job and their workplace. If an employee feels their work environment is unfavourable their attitudes towards their work can be significantly impacted. When this is replicated throughout an organisation, productivity and work performance can affect bottom line profitability – a scenario that every company wants to avoid.
According to the American Psychological Association, workplace stress costs the American economy alone $500 billion each year (Harvard Business Review, 2015).
Underpinning a positive work environment that uplifts employees and motivates them to achieve their best in their job is the ubiquitous notion of culture. Workplace culture is the sum of an organisation’s values, traditions, beliefs, interactions, behaviours and attitudes and it plays an important role in motivating staff, defining their relationships with others and supporting their overall well-being.
